I myself am one amongst the many that use a custom background for their Google homepage. I have used the same one for more than 5 years and I like it quite a bit. Google has just started displaying a notice that on November 16, 2012 they will be doing away with the background images to create a more “streamlined” search engine. Ohh great….
I hope Google isn’t doing this just to compete with Bing’s useless images on their homepage. I for one hope that even if they do re-create their homepage that they somehow leave the ability to add a custom background.
Google posted the following in a notification window on their search page:
Background images are going away on November 16, 2012Thank you for using background images. As we build a more streamlined Google Search page for everyone, we’ll no longer be able to support customization with background images. So you will no longer be able to see your background pictures starting November 16, 2012.Click Remove to stop using a background image now. Your current background image and Picasa web albums will still be available to you.
I have only one thing to say: Google leave my background image alone!

Wow. I just read that in two weeks my background image for Google will disappear. That’s so disappointing. It’s… fb.me/2qIvjy44r
