If you have an old laptop or even an old computer laying around, you can set it up as a secondary display for your main computer! I myself have an old dell mini laptop that I used as a secondary display for my main computer rig. This was accomplished with my network and a handy piece of free software! To get started we are going to need a few things. First, in order for this to work both on your computer need to be on the same local network; the faster the better. I used a 100Mbps wired network and it worked well. If you have a network you will now need to download ZoneScreen, the application used to stream and receive the secondary monitor on your laptop.

Once downloaded, run the set up wizard and install the program on both computers, then launch it. On your server computer, you primary/main computer, select “Act as a sever” and click next. Next you will select your desired secondary monitor. Now this can get confusing so pay attention.
Right click on your desktop and select “screen resolution” (For Windows XP, select “properties”). Here select “Detect” to scan for monitors. You should now be able to select a display that has a similar name to “Display Device on: Mobile PC Display”. Now select that monitor and enable the option to extend your desktop onto this display. Click apply and then ok. Return to ZoneScreen.
In Zone Screen you should now see another display option in the drop down box. Select Display Two and the desired display resolution (best would be the resolution of your secondary display) and click next. Here I selected 30 fps and left the full update at zero. You can play around with these settings depending on the speed of your network. Once you have the settings you like, start the server!
Now, on the client computer, select “Act as a client” and click next. Type in the IP address or host name of the main server computer. The TCP port should be left default. Click Next.
You should now see your main computers secondary display on your laptop! If you want full screen just press ALT + Enter on your keyboard or select “Enter Full-screen” from the options menu. You will now be able to drag windows and programs over onto the secondary display on your Laptop. Enjoy!
